1998 PRESIDENT'S REPORT

My three years as President of this fine organization is coming to a close and I want to thank all of you for your ongoing support of this organization. Those members who serve on the ACA Board of Directors are a great group of people that works selflessly to make camping and ACA Ohio a better organization. I know that you will all give your support to Craig Greenlee, our new Section President and his Board. Our volunteer Board members, Committee Members, Standards Visitors, Standards Trainees and Members are the lifeblood of this organization. Many thanks to all who have "given back" to the Section. We always have room for more committee members and standards visitors. Please consider becoming more involved.

Your Section Board has been busy this past three years working toward compliance with the revised Section Chartering requirements. At the 1999 National Conference, we hope to receive full compliance as a Section of ACA. In the past year, we have conducted a member survey and revised our Executive Job Description to comply with the chartering requirements.

We are proud to announce that Roberta Grossman is our new Section Executive. In addition to her new responsibilities with ACA, Roberta has been a long time ACA member and we look forward to working with her in this new role!

During the past year, many ACA and CCI individuals worked with the Ohio Department of Health revising the Resident and Day Camp Rules. These rules were last revised in 1990. Resident and Day Camp Rules are not mandated by the State and each County decides whether they will enforce the rules. All camps are expected to follow the Health Department Rules whether their County enforces them or not. There have been many changes in the new rules. In order to obtain a copy of these rules, contact your local Health Department or the State Health Department.

We again were very successful with our Section educational events. Congratulations to all who were involved in providing leadership! We encourage you to attend the April 1999 MidStates Camping Conference. Held in Chicago, it is an excellent training for seasoned and entry level camp staff. Ohio will have many presenters at the Conference. Many thanks to Tony Collins, who represents Ohio on the Steering Committee and Kim Brosnan, who is on the Program Committee. We hope to see you in Chicago for the National ACA Confernce also!

I would like to thank outgoing Board member, Bill Tighe for all his hard work these past years. We also thank our "retiring" Section Executive. Aileen Blyth for her many years of service and keeping this organization held together. While she is taking a breather from the Board, we know we can count on her for her expertise and leadership in the future. Many thanks!
