Friends of Kern, Inc. was established as a non-profit charitable 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization dedicated to maintaining contact with friends and alumni of YMCA Camp Kern, preserving Camp Ozone & Camp Kern's history, and perpetuating the camp experience and life's work of former Boys' Secretary Carl B. Kern.

2007 FOK ELECTIONS

Candidates, Voting Instructions, and Ballot

Ballot for 2007 is now closed.

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Friends of Kern, Inc. (FOK), it is our pleasure to present the 2007 FOK Election Ballot which include nominees for Directors on the Board of Friends of Kern, Inc. Voting for the FOK Board of Directors will be by electronic ballot submitted by Voting Members of FOK in good standing.

Biographical sketches of the candidates are below:

JEFF ANDERSON (Incumbent) - Jeff grew up in Dayton and spent many summers at Camp Kern, beginning in 1974 as a camper. He was on the summer staff in 1981 and 1984 and was on the Camp Kern Board of Directors from 1996-2000. While on the Board he helped reroute the main road near the lodge and designed / oversaw the renovation of the lodge. Jeff joined the Friends of Kern Board in 2003 and currently serves as the Treasurer. Jeff graduated from Miami University with a degree in Architecture in 1987 and become a licensed architect in 1993. He was in private practice until 2000, when he moved into the Corporate Real Estate and Development business. Currently he is a Regional Project Manager for Anderson Development Partners. Jeff lives in Waterford, Michigan with his wife Karynn, daughter Katie and son Ryan.

JOHN FIELY - John began his association with Camp Kern in the Fall of 1979 as an Outdoor Education Naturalist. He continued to be a Naturalist through the Fall of 1982 and was the Main Camp Program Director during the summers of 1980 thru 1982. In 1983 he took over the duties from Mike Sherman as Outdoor Education Director. In the Spring of 1983, John was instrumental in putting together the first issue of The Tower, a newsletter for Camp Kern Friends and Alumni. In 1985 John accepted a job as Director of Camping Services at the Cape Cod YMCA in Massachusetts. He next served as Director at Mystic Lake YMCA Camp in Michigan from 1988-1992. He returned to Kern in 1992 as the Assistant Director and then became the Executive Director one year later, serving in that role through 1997. John was also active with the American Camp Association (ACA) in Massachusetts, Michigan and Ohio serving as a visitor and member on various boards and committees. John currently lives in Lebanon, teaches grades 7 & 8 science and is an avid Scuba diver and masters age group swimmer. His wife Patty was also a Kern Naturalist and served as Kern's first Equestrian Director. They have two daughters, Polly (22) and Emily (17), both born and raised at YMCA camps.

If you wish to vote via paper ballot, please contact the FOK Director. If you choose to vote via paper ballot, you will not be able to vote electronically. The results of the election will be announced at the general membership meeting held in March. We thank you for your time and careful consideration of each of these outstanding nominees.

Instructions to Vote

You will need to log in to the Election Site using your last name and FOK member ID number. Your FOK member ID number may be found at the top of the FOK email communication concerning the 2007 Election. You may also contact the FOK Director for your ID number.

  • Select up to TWO individuals for FOK Director, each of whom will serve a three-year term on the FOK Board of Directors from 2007 through 2010. Those not currently on the Board will also be eligible to serve a second, consecutive three-year term, if nominated and re-elected.

  • The Ballot Site will be open from March 4th through Midnight, March 16, 2007, Eastern Time.

  • Only current Voting FOK members in good standing are eligible to vote in the FOK Board of Directors election.

Please note: Please review your selections before you click the "submit" button on the ballot. Changes to your ballot will not be accepted once the FOK office has received it. Once you have submitted your ballot a confirmation page with your selections will be displayed.
